Marc Polamns

Marc Polmans is an Australian professional tennis player. Born in South Africa, Marc started playing tennis at four-years-of-age after his uncle introduced him to the sport.

Marc comes from a strong sporting family - his father, Gavin and his mother, Nicola, both represented South Africa's national Badmington team.

At 10-years-of-age, Marc moved to Australia with his family to further develop his tennis career. Marc's father, Gavin visited Melbourne Park and instantly admired the Tennis Centre and decided to move his family over to give Marc the best shot at fulfilling his dream of becoming a professional tennis player. In 2015, Marc's career kicked off as he won the Australian Open boys doubles title and also reached the second round of qualifying in the men's singles draw at his home grand slam, at just 17-years-old.

Marc endured a steady rise up the singles rankings whilst also enjoying success on the doubles court in the early years of his career. In 2017, he reached the Australian Open men's doubles semifinals, a remarkable run partnering fellow Australian Andrew Whittington.

In 2018, Marc won his maiden ATP Challenger title at the Launceston International.

Marc made his Grand Slam singles main draw debut at the 2019 Australian Open and won his second ATP Challenger title a few months later in China in March. Later in the year, Marc claimed his first main draw victory on the ATP Tour when he qualified for the main draw of the Washington Open and won his first round match.

Marc's career reached new heights in 2020. At the 2020 Australian Open, he claimed his maiden Grand Slam main draw win, defeating world no. 68 Mikhail Kukushkin in five sets. He also won his first main draw singles match at the French Open, defeating world no. 38 Ugo Humbert - his first top-50 win.

In 2021, Marc reached the semi-finals of the mixed doubles draw at the Australian Open and qualified for his first Wimbledon main draw where he went on to win his first round match.

After spending a lengthy period off court due to covid and a serious foot injury, Marc returned to the court at the back end of the 2022 season and once again reached the semi-finals of the Australian Open mixed doubles draw in 2023. Marc backed it up and reached the semi-finals of the Australian Open mixed doubles again in 2024.

Marc's career-high singles ranking is no. 116, achieved in October 2020. His career-high doubles ranking is no. 68, achieved in October 2017.
