Elijah Winnington

Elijah Winnington, currently resides in Brisbane. He is one of the world’s premier freestyle swimmers and under the guidance of his coach Dean Boxall, Elijah trains alongside fellow swimming champion Ariane Titmus.

In his debut on the senior Dolphins team, Elijah was a member of the Men’s 4x200m Freestyle Relay team that won gold and set a new Games Record at the 2018 Commonwealth Games.

​​

The hometown hero continued his rapid ascent by winning gold in the 400m freestyle at the 2019 and 2021 Australian Swimming Championships. An impressive qualifier for Tokyo, Elijah became an Olympic bronze medallist as part of the Men’s 4x200m Freestyle Relay team and finished seventh in the men’s 400m freestyle final, having entered the competition ranked #1 in the world—a testament to his outstanding performance leading up to the Games.

After months of soul searching and questioning whether he could return to competition, Elijah embarked on an incredible three-year journey towards the next Olympic Games in Paris.

​​

He made his comeback in 2022 by winning gold in the 400m Men’s Freestyle at the World Championships in Budapest, followed by three more gold medals (one individual and two team) at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

​​

More recently, Elijah won silver in both the 400m and 800m freestyle at the 2024 World Aquatics Championships in Doha, before securing a silver medal in the 400m freestyle at the Paris Olympics, achieving redemption from Tokyo.
