Lucia Painter

Lucia "Lu" Painter is an Australian rules footballer who was selected by the West Coast Eagles with pick seven in the 2024 AFL Women's (AFLW) Draft.

Standing at 174 cm, Painter is known for her powerful midfield presence and versatility, often playing forward as well.

She developed her skills with the Bendigo Pioneers in the Coates Talent League, where she served as co-captain and delivered consistent performances throughout the 2024 season.

Painter's football journey began at the grassroots level, and she has been playing since she was about 10 years old.

Her dedication to the sport is evident in her rapid progression to the AFLW, despite overcoming challenges such as a severe ankle injury in 2023.

Off the field, Painter is known for her academic ambitions, having applied to universities across Australia to study law, with the goal of becoming a prosecuting lawyer.

She also has a passion for animals, caring for two blue-tongue lizards, a couple of fish, and a recently acquired puppy.

The West Coast Eagles anticipate that Painter's strength over the ball, kicking ability, and tackling prowess will significantly enhance their midfield and forward options in the upcoming AFLW season.
